Public Speaking Persuasive Speech
|
It is easy to differentiate persuasive speech from other varieties. Persuasive speaking is always done to convince people to act in a certain way. In an informative speech, the speaker serves as a teacher. In a persuasive speech, the speaker serves as a leader. When giving a persuasive speech, many different factors contribute to your failure or success. First is of course the words you are saying and how you are saying them. The content of your speech is very important.
The content of your speech should contain your goal, why it is important, and what the benefits are. For example, if you want your audience to vote a certain way, you need to tell them who you want them to vote for, the reasons they should, and what benefits they will reap by doing so. The best way to convince an audience to act in a certain way is to not only tell them the moral reasons they should but also what is in it for them. Along with the content of your speech, the way you deliver it is also important. Your voice should convey knowledge and confidence. Always speak with a smile in your voice and your audience will respond.
Body language can also hurt or help your cause. Many speakers walk back and forth across their platform, while others stay in one place. It all depends on your subject matter and how your audience is situated. Hand and body gestures can help drive your point home or emphasize certain parts of it. Practice your speech in front of a mirror to make sure you've got the gestures down pat. An even better idea would be to have someone videotape you giving your speech then watching the tape.
When planning to give a public speaking persuasive speech, learn as much as you can about the subject you're speaking on and practice as much as you can. Confidence is perhaps the most important trait a speaker can have, and it comes with plenty of practice. If you are confident when speaking your audience will have confidence in you. They will pick up on the confidence you're projecting and be more inclined to accept your point of view.
